The canteen is located at the campus of Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby, north of Copenhagen. The client had a clear vision that the canteen should be much more than a canteen open for just a couple of hours daily during lunch time. Apart from serving its main function, there was a demand that the canteen could be efficiently transformed into either: meeting room, representative multipurpose space where VIP guests can be welcomed, a place where students can study in a more relaxed ambience, evening lounge bar or a space for similar university social life arrangements.

The lighting concept is built around the idea that there should be different lighting presets for different activities. In order to achieve such a concept, dynamic lighting had to be implemented. The final result is a lighting installation with predefined lighting presets, where each lighting preset is customized for an individual function predefined by the client.

A luminous colour-changing wall is another essential part of the concept, since it dominates one's visual experience and emphasizes the building's transparency. The wall's hues, luminous intensity and the speed of colour changing are defined in the presets.

Finally, the whole lighting installation is done with state-of-the-art LED fittings, which also underlines DTU's identity as a leading Danish research institution.  The lighting is controlled from the central console via a user-friendly control system.
